Dr. Daren Mueller of Iowa State University was awarded with a Research Building Grant, allowing travel and collaboration for his proposed work, “Preparation for tri-trophic interactions between plants, pathogens and beneficial microbes under space conditions.” Working with NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Dr. Mueller plans to study the benefits of pathogens in growing produce in space, such as on the International Space Station, and later on Mars. Understanding responses of physical and biological systems in the space flight environment is vital to living and working in space.
